Pro-Life Activities
Knights from all parts of the United States will be on hand for the annual March for Life in Washington DC, which will be held on January 22, 2004. The march commemorates the anniversary of the infamous Roe v. Wade decision by the U.S. Supreme Court on January 22, 1973, which legalized abortion on demand. All Knights and families are encouraged to take part in the Washington march or in Pro-Life events near their homes. The North Carolina Right to Life will commemorate the decision legalizing abortion on January 17, 2004. The annual Rally and March for Life will be in Raleigh, NC. In addition to the Rally and March for Life they will hold their annual Pray Breakfast for Life before the march. Knights, family and friends who cannot go to Raleigh or Washington can participate in a local pro-life activity, the VIGIL for LIFE, to be held in January at the Court House in Graham, NC. This event is sponsored by the Alamance County Right to Life. People from all churches in the area have encircled the Court House in the past to light a candle and pray for life of the unborn. The International Knights of Columbus Day of the Unborn Child is observed on March 25th with events Orderwide, including a rosary for life to celebrate unborn life on the feast of the Annunciation at the National Shrine of Immaculate Conception. In the Crusade for Life, Knights, family and friends are encouraged join by praying the rosary in the defense of the sanctity of unborn human life on March 25, 2004. The U.S. Conference Catholic Bishops Respect Life Program begins anew each year on Respect Life Sunday, the first Sunday in October. Distribution of the U.S. bishops’ Respect Life information and the USCCB Secretariat for Pro-Life activities Life Insight publication is made possible thru the generosity of the Knights of Columbus In December 2004, we celebrate the 150th anniversary of the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception on December 8th. We also celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe December 12th and on December 25th the birth of God’s Son Jesus Christ. The Immaculate Conception was the preparation by God of a human tabernacle for His Son here on earth. The light of revelation, which reaches its fullness in the birth of Jesus Christ, confirms and completes all that human reason can grasp concerning the value of human life. Let us petition Our Lady to intercede for the protection of human life: In addition to the pro-life materials the Knights of Columbus makes available directly, here are some links to the web sites of organizations dedicated to the pro-life cause.
