Blood Drive scheduled for July 20, 2008
July  2008

Our goal is 40 pints and we need help setting up at 11am on the 3rd. There continues to be a critical shortage of blood in the county, state and country.  With the warmer weather  approaching, this shortage will (statistically) get worse before it gets better, and supplies are projected to remain at the critical level into early summer unless first-time and occasional donors step up to the plate.  It is imperative that we get as much participation from our parish family as possible at our March Blood Drive in order to do our part to alleviate this shortage.  All brothers and their family members over the age of 17 (and over 110 pounds) are strongly encouraged to donate.  Information on blood donation is provided at the following link:

https://www.givelife.org/index_flash.cfm?thisHB=11/18/2004%2007:15:30

Also, appointments for our Blood Drive at Blessed Sacrament may be scheduled through this website link.  Just search for donation opportunities by state, then county to find the sign up sheet.

If your parent, spouse, child or grandchild were in critical need of blood and none was available, could you really just stand by and explain to them that you hadn’t done your part to perpetuate the supply because you “just didn’t feel like donating”?  Or that “needles make me nervous”?  The process of donating is easy and straight forward.  The slogan “give the gift of life” is not just some platitude, it is a very real statement.  With every donation, a life is saved.  Please make an extra effort to do your part.

Here's just one story from the website above:

Cody

Cody was only four when an infection in his mouth turned out to be the first sign of a disease that had already riddled his body with tumors and cancer cells. Cody had Burkitts Leukemia. His body could no longer produce blood cells, so chemotherapy and blood transfusions became a way of life. Cody persevered and today, in remission, he is a rambunctious ten-year-old. His family is deeply grateful to the many blood donors who generously gave this  gift of life.
