1975 - 1985: The
Activities Expand through Three Pastors
1975:
The council participates in the Burlington Foster Child
Program, and continues with its support of other charitable
activities.
1976:
The council participates in the Burlington Christmas
Parade. Citrus replaces toilet tissue as a fund raiser.
1977 and 1978:
Father Maloney is the new Pastor. The council continues
with its support of Church, Civic, and social activities.
The council enters a live Nativity Float in the Graham
Christmas Parade and the Fourth Degree provides the Honor
Guard. The council has participated in this parade every
year since.
1979:
The council sponsors a golf tournament for the parish, and
20-pound bags of fertilizer replace citrus as a fund raiser.
1980:
During Lent, Fourth Degree members of the council act as
leaders for the Stations of the Cross with assistance from
council members. Parish Right-To-Life Committee and council
members staff an information booth at the Alamance County
Fair.
1981:
Members conduct poetry and essay contests for the school
youth, and work with other parish groups to landscape the
parish grounds.
1982:
With the 30th Anniversary of the council, a tree is planted
on the church grounds and marked with a bronze plaque in
memory of deceased members. The council begins
participation in the State-wide Pilgrim Virgin Hour of
Prayer and the Traveling Gavel program. The first official
First Degree Team is formed.
1983:
No record.
1984:
Father Sanford, the current Pastor, suggests a Grotto to The
Virgin Mary be placed on the church grounds. Brother Joe
Blihar reports his mother would be willing to donate the
statue. No decision is made, and although no further
mention is made in the minutes, there is a Grotto to The
Virgin Mary on the church grounds.
1985:
Father Pitts is now the Pastor. Members volunteer to man the
phones for the annual Jerry Lewis MDA telethon, and
participate in the dedication of the renovated Koury Center.
